About CORE

How it all started CORE was developed by Crius Group. For more than 30 years, we have provided layout services for all kinds of publishers, ranging from the educational to the scientific segments. Crius Group has knowledge in the field of automation and is skilled at graphic design. In order to reach the publishers of novels and thrillers, we have combined both elements in CORE. We namely discovered that businesses like these were less inclined to outsource the layout of their manuscripts to us. This was because they feared “automation and too much standardisation”. In addition, there were long-term relationships with existing suppliers in place and they didn’t want to change them just like that.

On the other hand, many publishers really did need a lower page price. The challenge was to solve this need for fiction publishers, but not to jeopardise the quality of their publications - on the contrary in fact! We chose to use InDesign. As a result, there are virtually no restrictions, graphically speaking.

During the development of CORE, we were also very aware of the fact that there is more to things than just an efficient process. We definitely could not and did not forget the costs for the back and forth of proofs (such as working hours and printing and shipping costs). This is why CORE supports the entire production workflow - from manuscript to publication - without the need to print a single page during the production process.

CORE for partners CORE is now in place at a large number of publishers in Belgium and the Netherlands. This has shown that it is a faster, cheaper and more environmentally friendly way of publishing that really works. This technology enables publishers to work in a more digital and autonomous way. Of course, investments in integration, change management and training are needed in the beginning. These ensure that everyone using the platform benefits from the faster process flow. But this investment pays for itself quickly and creates a real win-win situation. Lower costs for publishing, a cost-effective model for the designer and a long-term cooperation for all.

We are very enthusiastic to be bringing this solution to the wider European market as well. 

To this end, we are working together with other typesetters who will introduce CORE to their customers themselves. CORE is actually a cooperation among three parties:

• your customers, i.e. publishers of thrillers and fiction;
• you, the typesetter;
• us, Crius Group.

Our goal is to build long-term partnerships based on trust and we understand how important this is for typesetters and publishers. This firm belief forms the basis of our licensing model and means that we do not charge high entry or extension fees.
